Hello, ArtScience Friends and Fellows!

I know it's been a while since I've posted, but things have been moving at a rapid pace here at OK ArtScience Prize!  Our teams have been formed and brainstorming sessions have resulted in some wild and crazy ideas.  I guess it's to be expected when you put together teams who are as uniquely gifted and creative as our 2013 bunch.

To catch you up, we've finished our globes ...

we stacked some cups ...

AND we're getting ready for our first ever, OK ArtScience Prize LOCK-IN!  I'm a little nervous.  I'm afraid keeping these nine creative bursts of energy it may be similar to trying to control a molecule of Francium.  (Look it up!)

Anyway, I'll keep you "Posted"!

Wow!  It's been a very busy couple of weeks!  The OK ArtScience Prize has changed locations. We now meet at the OK ArtScience Space in the Creative Oklahoma Offices.  We do, however, continue to benefit from our partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Oklahoma County.  They have generously offered the use of their state-of-the-art computer lab for our Field Research days as well as transportation to our group field trips!

Again, I have to sing the praises of our amazing mentors.  They are creative, inventive and totally engaged.  Their dedication to this program is phenomenal.  Our students have already formed great relationships with them and with each other.  As we begin discussing this year's Seed Ideas the level of trust is evident as the ideas fly fast and furious, and without inhibition!

This week, the students worked on finishing up a project presented by Mentor Kim Iraggi. Focusing on the Key Theme of Transformation, the students repurposed old globes.  I am blown away by the results!

In addition, the students were treated to a wonderful presentation exploring the ethics of SynBio by Mentor Kay Brooks.  I was impressed with the way she managed to work in clips from one of her all-time favorite movies, "Jurassic Park".  The resulting discussion was provocative and insightful.  I can't wait until our next meeting!

It's Saturday, and while most people took advantage of not having to get up early for work or school, our dedicated ArtScience Mentors were hard at work planing the upcoming ArtScience Prize Kick-off.  What a dedicated group of professionals!

Today the group was introduced to a new member of our team, Wesley Tomlin, who will be working as an intern for OK ArtScience this semester.  Wesley is a Senior at Harding Charter Prep High School and heard about the program through friends who are ArtScience Prize Alumni.  Although his official internship does not begin until February, Wesley has already jumped in and rolled up his sleeves.  Welcome aboard, Wesley!

On Monday, January 7th, I will be visiting both Harding Fine Arts and Harding Charter Prep to invite students to apply to the program.  Assisting me will be Victoria Washington, one of the 2012-13 winners of the Oklahoma Innovation Prize.  Victoria is a Oklahoma ArtScience Prize alumnus who has continued to work closely with the program.

The day to remember is Thursday, January 10th.  This is the date of the official ArtScience Prize Orientation which will kick-off the program for the 2012-13 school year.  All students who wish to participate in the program must attend this orientation.  The Orientation will be held at the Boys and Girls Club of Oklahoma County, located at 3535 N. Western, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM.  Come out and learn how to realize your dreams!
